Don Cornelius, the creator and host of the popular soul music television show "Soul Train," which aired until 1993, was found dead in his Los Angeles home Wednesday morning. The Los Angeles Police Department says the cause of death was a gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted. Cornelius was 75 years old, and had been struggling with various health problems since 1982, when he had to undergo brain surgery. Cornelius created "Soul Train" in 1971 in order to introduce African-American soul musicians to a larger audience. The show ran for 35 years, with Cornelius at the helm for the first two decades.
